Dozens of cars vandalized in Pacific Beach

PACIFIC BEACH (CBS 8) - Dozens of cars were vandalized overnight in a Pacific Beach neighborhood.

A viewer tells CBS News 8 that several cars along her street were keyed. At least one witness spotted a suspicious person in the area.

Police were on the scene for several hours Monday morning. They say a total of 25 cars were hit. Victim Jessi Janes told CBS News 8 she had three vehicles vandalized, including a brand new sedan and a Volkswagen van.

"I was just shocked. I couldn't believe that somebody would just have no regard for everyone else's property," she said.

Unfortunately, not everyone's insurance will cover the damage.

Police first received a call about the vandalism around 7:30 a.m. Monday. They say the damage appears to be random, all within a two-block radius, with some vehicles being keyed more heavily than others.

Officers spoke with one woman who says she saw the suspect messing with her roommate's car, and when she yelled at him, he ran away.

She was able to offer a description. Detectives have also collected fingerprints and are looking at surveillance footage.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s with a stocky build, wearing a black t-shirt. The witness said it looked as though he had been drinking.
