Rescued sea otter pup being cared for at SeaWorld

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - SeaWorld San Diego is now home to a rescued sea otter pup found off the coast of Santa Barbara.

The 6 1/2-week-old pup seems to be enjoying her new habitat after the Monterey Bay Aquarium brought her to San Diego Wednesday.

The pup was found when she was just one day old, weighing only about 3 pounds. Now she weighs 7 pounds, and SeaWorld will monitor her 24 hours a day, making sure she gets the care she needs.

"I'm taking on that role as mom and using the towel to groom her. We also have little brushes and combs that we can groom, helping to stimulate the pup to do this natural behavior herself," senior animal care specialist Marcia Thissell said.

SeaWorld staff says the pup will stay at the facility for long-term care.
