Woman stabbed by attacker in Grim Reaper costume

VISTA (CBS 8) - A costumed assailant is on the loose after stabbing a woman in Vista overnight.

The victim reported that she was attacked by another woman who was wearing a Grim Reaper costume.

The stabbing at the Shadowridge apartment complex at 1904 Thibodo Road was reported at 1:50 a.m., said San Diego County sheriff's Lt. James Bolwerk.

The victim told investigators she was in the bathtub in her second-floor unit when another woman wearing a mask broke into her apartment and stabbed her several times, including once in the back and hand. The suspect then jumped off a second-story balcony and ran away.

According to investigators, the victim reported hearing a woman's voice behind the suspect's mask. A search of the area by deputies with K-9s turned up nothing.

Paramedics took the victim to Palomar Medical Center to treat non-life threatening wounds, Bolwerk said. Investigators say the victim and the suspect do not know eachother.

It's the second attack in nine days at the complex. According to the apartment manager, a resident was cut by a stranger while taking out the trash.

Neighbors complained that one of the front doors in the gated community remains unlocked.

"It's scary because we paid a lot of money to live in a nice community, and now we don't feel safe," a neighbor said.

Some residents told CBS News 8 they plan to move, or at least celebrate Halloween in a different neighborhood Friday. They hope more law enforcement will watch the area and find the suspect.
