Clever escapee didn't outsmart system for long

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A man who escaped from the San Diego Central Jail after being arrested on drug charges was sentenced Friday to two years in prison.

Don Torillo was arrested on drug charges in September. He escaped from the jail after switching ID wristbands with another inmate, who was due to be released before he was. Jail authorities noticed the switch about an hour after Torillo was released.

He was found the next day at a Motel 6 in El Cajon.

Officials say they're working on preventing something like this from happening again.

Torillo's mother also pleaded guilty to helping him while he was on the run. She's scheduled for sentencing December 16.
