Homeless get help in Chula Vista

Posted: Updated:

CHULA VISTA (CBS 8) – The City of Chula Vista joined with several community groups Thursday to deliver basic services to the area's homeless.

Organizers say the South Bay region has seen a 19 percent increase in its homeless population since last year. Thursday's event offered medical and legal services to homeless individuals and families, along with other amenities they might not have access to.

"We have haircuts and showers, flu shots and the idea is to offer as many services as we can in one location," Angelica Davis of the South Bay Homeless Advocacy Coalition said.

City officials expected to help about 100 people at Thursday's event.
