SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - It's National Adoption Awareness Month, and San Diego County's adoption program has 32 reasons to celebrate.

For 32 children, years of separation ended with celebration. After the face painting, food and fun, they all go home with their parents.

"I just want to say both to Donnel and Genesis that our lives have changed dramatically, for the better," adoptive father Rick Budzynski said.

Rick and Donna Budzynski just made it official. They're now a mom and dad to Donnel and Genesis.

"It's just a great feeling to have this finally come to a conclusion and be finalizing our adoption," Donna said.

Now that Donnel and Genesis have loving parents, it's time to consider lifelong goals.

"I kinda want to make it to the NBA one day," Donnel said.

Another child adopted was 14-year-old Eliga Straub. His new family lives in Maryland, and believe it or not, spotted him by watching Marcella Lee's Adopt 8 story online.

"That's what did it. It was effective all the way across the country," his adoptive mother said.

Eliga now has a little brother named Nolan and a dad named Norbert. Four years of failed foster homes ends today.

Twenty families adopted children today. It's a meticulous process that takes between six months and two years for the county to finalize.

"For me this is the most important day of the whole year, to be able to see everything come to fruition. So it's sort of magical," Margo Fudge of the San Diego County Adoption Program said.
