LAKESIDE (CNS) - A man who got separated from companions hiking El Capitan Mountain in Lakeside walked all night to get to his home near La Mesa, and was found safe today.
Jerry Lee Hooten, 66, was reported missing after a friend lost sight of him while hiking toward the mountain's peak around 3 p.m. Friday.
Hooten later failed to make it back to their vehicle in the 12000 block of Wildcat Canyon Road, according to a sheriff's department statement.
He was located uninjured near the San Diego-La Mesa city line, sheriff's Lt. Jim Walker said.
Hooten said that after he became separated from his hiking companion, he walked all night to get home.
