Border Patrol chase ends with crash in El Cajon yard

EL CAJON (CBS 8) –Border Patrol agents captured more than two dozen people suspected of illegally crossing the border in the back of two trucks.

Just after 6:00 p.m. a Border Patrol spokesperson says its agents attempted to stop two suspected load trucks who were heading westbound on Interstate-8. Agents say the trucks did not yield at the checkpoint and fled on the freeway.

A gold 2000 Chevy truck exited the interstate and was rammed by a truck driven by Border Patrol in a residential yard on Joey Avenue and Lindsay Street. Agents say the driver and 15 people were in the truck.

“I was just overwhelmed. I didn't know there were so many, they were all on the [ground],” said Iris Bisbal, neighbor.

The other truck, a white 1990 Chevy, exited at Greenfield off-ramp in El Cajon and stopped in the Jack in the Box parking lot. Agents say they arrested the driver and the 16 people packed in the truck.

Neighbors say the impact of the crash in the neighborhood forced one person to fly out of the bed of the truck. Four people were taken to the hospital for precautionary evaluation.

A total of 31 people were taken into custody suspected of entering the country illegally.

DMV records show the white Chevy truck was registered to an auto shop in the South Bay and the gold Chevy truck was registered not to operate. Both vehicles were not reported stolen.
