CHULA VISTA (CNS) - Sentencing set for Friday was postponed to Jan. 16 for a parolee who drove while under the influence of cocaine, fatally injuring an 89-year-old man walking on a sidewalk in National City.

Kevin Earl Moore, 57, was convicted of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI causing injury in connection with the death of Tomas Mondares, who was struck shortly before 9 a.m. on Jan. 20 while walking in the 500 block of East Eighth Street.

Police said Moore was behind the wheel of an eastbound 2002 Infiniti sedan that veered off the road and hit Mondares, who died at the scene.

Officers found the vehicle parked about 100 yards away and contacted the driver, later identified as Moore.

Police said Moore has a history of drug, burglary and domestic violence arrests and has been to prison four times.

He faces up to 14 years in prison.
