SAN DIEGO (CBS 8/CNS) - One person was injured Monday when a car crashed into a Grantville-area sushi restaurant.

The accident in the 6100 block of Mission Gorge Road occurred shortly before 5 p.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The passenger in the blue Honda Element told CBS News 8, his 80-year-old wife was driving and trying to park to eat next door at Souplantation.

“She braked and her foot slipped and as she was just about to hit the curb we accelerated and went right through the restaurant,” said Robert Parkinson.

Police say the San Diego Fire and Rescue Department had to extricate a woman out of the booth.

The owner of the restaurant says she was walking into her restaurant as the crash happened.

“I heard the lady she scream bad. She said, ‘Oh my God, help me, help me, I'm really hurt,” said Tammy Nguyen, Kimmi's Sushi & Japanese owner.

One woman was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The restaurant is boarded up and remains closed until repairs are made and the structure is determined to be safe.

San Diego police say the driver's license has been suspended pending the DMV's review to determine if the driver is safe to get back behind the wheel.
