Easing adoption process for new families

Posted: Updated:
SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Adopting a child is about to get easier for non-traditional families in San Diego County.

County Supervisors Greg Cox and Dave Roberts are announcing changes to the existing Exceptional Families for Exceptional Children Campaign that they say will reduce paperwork and streamline the adoption process.

"We're making an appeal to people to consider if they're empty-nesters, if they're non-traditional families, but they'd like to have adoptive children, that they consider adopting one of these really great kids that we have in San Diego county in our foster care system,” said Cox.

When the program started in 2013, 45 children were waiting for a forever home. Of those children, all but ten have been adopted.
