Trees for Troops helps local military families

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – Local military families got a little help with the holidays at the Trees for Troops event in Linda Vista Wednesday.

More than 200 families got a chance to pick out a Christmas tree, free of charge. FedEx delivered the trees to the lot Wednesday morning. Volunteers from the Lincoln Military Housing company helped the families choose the trees and loaded them into their vehicles.

This is the 10th year trees for troops has hosted the program.

"My husband is deployed and it just helps so much, because trees are expensive and the kids look forward to having one," military spouse Shannon Connor said.

There was also entertainment and snacks for families waiting to choose their trees, and a toy giveaway for the kids.
