Heavy rains, high winds causing big problems

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – A strong storm is causing damage throughout San Diego Friday.

High winds and heavy rain caused havoc for drivers. Forces were strong enough to down trees in Hillcrest. Flooded streets are a common sight Friday as the latest Pacific storm makes its way through the area.

SUVs, cars and trucks drove through about two feet of water on Camino Del Rio South across from Mission Valley Mall. The road looked more like a muddy swimming pool. Sandbags are in place to prevent flooding in the Hyatt Hotel parking lot.

The rain contributed to traffic problems during Friday's morning commute, including a spinout on 805 south near University. Drivers were advised to slow down on wet roads.
