Taking the storm in stride in East County

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - While many San Diegans are worried about damages from the strong winds and heavy rains, others are not letting the storm ruin their plans.

The steady rain could have made East County residents mad, but instead of being teed off, we found several residents having a ball.

"It's a 36-hole day. There's no one in our way," one golfer said.

Golfers at Mt. Woodson say the alternative was going to work, and playing golf was definitely better.

"It's probably the worst conditions we've played in out here, but it's very enjoyable actually," a golfer said.

It's also a perfect day for a cup of something warm. Most people chose a hot drink -- good news for baristas at the Cappuccino Cottage, who see the rain gauge as half full.

"We need the rain in the worst way and it's not coming down too hard. So hopefully it soaks in pretty good," an employee said.

The cottage's customers agree, with a smile. Maybe that's because they didn't even have to get out their car.

"I think there's less of a chance of big fires, so I'm less worried about my horses and obviously we're in a drought, so we need water," a customer said.

It makes the falling rain a great way to ring in the holiday season -- a gift from Mother Nature, and a form of entertainment. We're getting soaked and driving's not that fun, but really, is it worth it to let the rain get you down?

"Oh it's not going to do you any good. It is what it is. It's the holidays, right? Everyone's out doing their thing," one resident said.
