Man critically injured in Gaslamp fight

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Police are searching for a person of interest, after a fight in the Gaslamp sent a man to the hospital with serious injuries.

Shortly after 2:00 a.m. Sunday, a San Diego Police Officer saw several people fighting in the 400 block of G Street. As the officer approached, the participants fled the scene.

The officer then found an unconscious male in the middle of the street and provided aid.

The man, in his 20's, was transported by medics to a local hospital. As of Sunday morning, he was listed in critical condition with significant head trauma.

Police are seeking a person of interest described as a white male, 25-30 years old, 5'9”, 165 pounds, wearing a gray suit jacket and gray dress pants.

"Detectives are looking at video and talking with business owners and other witnesses to see if we can ascertain what precipitated this altercation,” explained Lt. Mike Hastings with the San Diego Police Department.

The victim's identity has not been released. And, the investigation into the altercation is ongoing.
