Neighbors concerned over liquor license plan in Barrio Logan

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A group of neighbors gathered in Barrio Logan Thursday to show their concern over a plan to grant a new liquor license to an existing store.

The California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control has already given preliminary approval to a Type 21 license for a neighborhood market. The license allows the market to sell hard alcohol in addition to beer and wine.

Neighbors are concerned because the market is close to a church and two elementary schools.

"When you've got alcohol you bring a lot of traffic. You have people hanging out. You've got people drinking on the side of the schools, so we don't want that here in this community," I Am My Brother's Keeper Director Charles Alexander said.

The department has until December 25 to make a final decision about the liquor license.
