Lawmakers voice opposition to new Cuban policy

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Some lawmakers on Capitol Hill are threatening to prevent President Obama's plans for better relations with the Cuban government.

The president said Wednesday the U.S would open an embassy in Havana for the first time since 1961.

Florida's republican senator Marco Rubio, who is the son of Cuban immigrants, says he will block confirmation of President Obama's nominee for ambassador.

Rubio is also opposed to lifting the trade embargo that has been in place for 54 years.
