SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Christmas came early Friday for about 300 people who live in Southeastern San Diego.
The San Diego Police Department's Southeastern Division hosted its annual toy giveaway Friday at the Jacobs Center.
In the last few months, the department reached out to schools in the area, asking them to identify families who needed a little help this holiday season. The families were given vouchers and invited to the celebration.
"They come in today to eat and have a celebration and take home some toys at the end of the day," Capt. Jorge Duran said.
The toy giveaway is named in honor of San Diego police Officer Jerry Griffin, who was killed in the line of duty in 2003.
