Local police departments on alert after NY officer shootings

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Police departments across the country -- and here in San Diego -- are on alert after the execution-style murders of two officers in Brooklyn.

Protests over Police related violence are expected to continue in New York and across the country.

Officers around the country are being told to limit posting opinions on their personal social media accounts. Police departments are also telling their officers to wear their bulletproof vests, not to make unnecessary arrests, and not to go on patrol alone.

"We are wearing our mourning bands to show respect," SDPD Chief Shelley Zimmerman said. "This goes to show how dangerous our law enforcement profession can be."

While the department is on high alert, there have been no changes to policy or protocol.

"Our officers are continuing to remain vigilant, to practice the best officer safety habits that we use," Zimmerman said.
