SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Law enforcement will spread holiday cheer throughout San Diego County Tuesday by delivering gift baskets to homebound seniors and toys to underprivileged children.

Three separate events were planned Tuesday at the San Diego Police Department's Southern Division offices on 27th Street. According to organizers, San Diego police officers, including one dressed as Santa Claus, will kick off two days of toy distribution.

About 90 presents are expected to be given to underprivileged South Bay children Tuesday and Wednesday.

California Highway Patrol officers are scheduled to join in the fun at 10 a.m. with their "CHiPs for Kids" holiday charity program. Organizers said Santa will also be joining CHP personnel as they hand out toys to underprivileged children at a Logan Heights business on Logan Avenue.

Also at 10 a.m., members of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department's Senior Volunteer Patrol will fan out across the East County to deliver gift baskets to seniors enrolled in the "You Are Not Alone" program. Year-round, Senior Volunteer Patrol members check in on seniors enrolled in the program, many of whom never leave their homes due to advanced age or medical conditions.
