CHP releases holiday DUI stats

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - DUI arrests were up and fatalities were down locally over the Christmas holiday, with statewide figures showing increases in both categories, according to early statistics released today by the California Highway Patrol.

For the 14-hour period from 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve through 8 a.m. Christmas morning, there were nine arrests for suspicion of drunken driving in San Diego County compared with six during the same period in 2013.

There were no fatalities compared with one last year.

Statewide, 142 arrests for suspicion of drunken driving were made over the holiday compared to 115 in 2013. So far, six fatalities have been reported this year, double the number for the same time period in 2013.

One of the six was not wearing a safety belt.

DUI arrest figures reflect only those made by CHP officers.

The fatalities reported were from all law enforcement agencies.

The CHP investigates all crashes on freeways and on all roads in unincorporated areas.
