Julian residents, businesses concerned about snow visitors

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - While snow-loving San Diegans cram the local mountains, there are fears it might become a big problem. Residents and business owners in Julian are hoping their town won't be trashed.

On Wednesday, rangers chased out snow lovers from the Santa Ysabel Preserve, which was closed to protect sensitive habitat from the crowds. Signs were posted, but some people told CBS News 8 they just didn't see them.

"The gates were closed, so we all kind of went through the middle of the fence. But you know, there were a lot of people," one visitor said.

Julian residents say they hope people will respect the "No Trespassing" signs and stick to the public areas.

The CHP also wants to make sure everyone is prepared for icy roads, requiring chains on mountain roads.
