String of late-night robberies in La Mesa may be related

Posted: Updated:

LA MESA (CNS) - La Mesa police Wednesday are investigating whether a string of recent armed robberies are related.

The most recent crime at Yum-Yum Donut Shop at 7550 El Cajon Blvd. was reported at 9:55 p.m. Tuesday, according to La Mesa police.

One of the robbers pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at an employee while the other two robbers jumped over a counter and took cash from the business, police said in a statement. The amount was not disclosed.

The robbers also took the employee's wallet and cell phone and a cell phone from a customer before fleeing on foot, police said.

No injuries were reported.

All three robbers were described as light-skinned black men around 20-25 years old, 5 feet 11 to 6 feet and 170-180 pounds. Two were dressed in black and wore masks, and the third wore a gray hoodie and black pants, police said.

Meantime, investigators are working to determine whether those suspects were also involved in a separate robbery attempt at a liquor store in Clairemont.

Police say two masked gunmen held-up the Home Bar Liquor Store and Deli in the 3500 block of Ashford Street around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday. The clerk confronted the two men, who then ran off toward Beagle Street.

Police described both suspects as black and in their 20s, last seen wearing black hoodies and dark pants. One stands about 5 feet 7 and weighs an estimated 160 pounds, according to San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.

According to investigators, there have been eight separate robberies with similar suspect descriptions since December 15.

Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888)580-TIPS. You could be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
