OCEANSIDE (CBS 8) - A homicide investigation is underway Thursday in Oceanside, after the bodies of a man and woman were found inside a mobile home in Oceanside.

Officers were called to check on the welfare of a woman at the home in the 300 block of Horizon Lane about 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to Oceanside police Lt. Valencia Saadat.

Once there, they were unable to get anyone to answer the door so the officers forced their way in, Saadat said in a statement.

Officers then discovered the bodies of a 63-year-old man and 55-year-old woman inside.

"It is either a double homicide or a murder suicide and so we would appeal to the community and particularly the community here," explained Lt. Leonard Cosby with the Oceanside Police Department. "If you heard anything or something that sounded like a gunshot let us know."

Police say the man and woman suffered gunshot wounds. A handgun was found inside the home. There was no forced entry.

According to Lt. Sean Marchand with the Oceanside Police Department, the man and woman were Asian and at one point were romantically involved. They also both lived in the residence.

One neighbor says this is a safe gated community and that he and his wife just spoke to the woman on Monday after a mail package was delivered to their home by accident. He adds that they're startled by the news, but are not panicking.

One neighbor, Jerry Mitchell, has lived in that community for 20 years:

"Kind of spooky didn't know anything like this would ever happen."

Autopsies must be completed before the coroner can release the cause of death.

Detectives are investigating how the two died and the circumstances surrounding their deaths. As of this report, there are no suspects.

Meanwhile, a woman showed up to the scene Thursday and indicated that her sister left behind a son.
