Fire destroys Rancho Coastal Humane Society truck

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The Rancho Coastal Humane Society is asking for the community's help in replacing one of its trucks that was destroyed beyond repair in a fire over the weekend.

The 2002 GMC truck caught fire Sunday. A mechanic was trying to determine the source of a gas leak when static electricity ignited the gasoline.

The man suffered second degree burns. Employees are now using their personal cars to get by.

"This is kind of the all-purpose vehicle. It's the one that may haul a one-pound puppy in the morning and then pull a trailer to an evacuation area in the afternoon, so we're limping along as best we can," John Van Zante of the Rancho Coastal Humane Society said.

If you'd like to help donate toward a new vehicle, call (760) 753-6413.
