A Carmel Valley man suffered fatal burns Friday when flames spread through his condominium.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A Carmel Valley man suffered fatal burns Friday when flames spread through his condominium.

The blaze in the 3500 block of Caminito El Rincon erupted for unknown reasons shortly before 11:30 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

It took crews about 10 minutes to subdue the flames, SDFRD Capt. Joe Amador said.

Medics took the critically burned resident to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest, where he was pronounced dead. His name was not immediately released.

The cause of the fire, which resulted in an estimated $20,000 worth of property damage, was under investigation.
