Bomb threat prompts precautionary lockdown at Valley Center school

Valley Center Middle School has been placed on a precautionary lockdown, after reports of a bomb threat.
SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A domestic violence suspect being arrested at a North County home Tuesday made an apparently bogus claim that a bomb was in the residence, prompting a precautionary lockdown at a nearby school while authorities investigated.

The allegedly abusive and intoxicated man made the comment to deputies while they took him into custody in the
28000 block of North Lake Wohlford Road
about 10:30 a.m., according to sheriff's officials.

Administrators secured all students in their classrooms at Valley Center Middle School while an ordnance-handling team searched the house just north of the campus, Sgt. Frank Gallardo said.

All students were safe at all times and were given lunch inside their classrooms, according to officials with Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District.

Shortly after 1 p.m., deputies gave the school an all-clear to lift the lockdown. Bomb squad personnel completed their search of the home about a half-hour, finding no explosive materials, the sergeant said.

The suspect's name was not immediately available.
