It's check-up time for rescued beagles

Thirty-five beagles surrendered to the Rancho Coastal Humane Society got their check-ups Tuesday.

ENCINITAS (CBS 8) – Thirty-five beagles surrendered to the Rancho Coastal Humane Society got their check-ups Tuesday.

The dogs range from puppies to pregnant moms-to-be. They were taken from a hoarder's home on Monday.

Playfully waiting to get their check-ups, the beagle pups didn't seem afraid of the doctor, or the dentist.

While some of the puppies are still nursing, once they are ready, they'll be up for adoption. More than 300 applications to adopt them were received as of Tuesday evening.

"When this mommy dog is adopted, her days of being a single mom are over," John Van Zante of the Rancho Coastal Humane Society said.

Five of the adult females are expecting, and they won't be ready for adoption until May or June. However, Van Zante says some of mom beagles are expected to be ready for adoption this weekend, with some of the puppies available next week.

Before they head out the door though, they are getting all their vaccinations and will be spayed and neutered.

"They will get registered microchips, but when they walk out the door they are ready to start life," he said.

There is currently not a cut-off for applications at the Rancho Coastal Humane Society, but they say while these adorable faces are irresistible – and the breed just won the Westminster dog show -- remember they won't be puppies forever.

Some of the footage used in the above video report was shot using a GoPro camera.
