EL CAJON (CBS 8) - A jury Wednesday convicted a man in a violent road rage assault that resulted in serious injuries to a 76-year-old driver last year.

Thomas Sikes, 56, was found guilty of elder abuse and assault charges in the April 2014 attack, which was caught on surveillance video.

In the video Sikes could be seen walking up to Ron Torncello's vehicle, which was parked in a CVS parking lot, and confronting him about cutting off several drivers. Sikes is then seen punching the man.

Torncello required two surgeries to repair the damage to his eye.

Sikes faces up to nine years in prison.

In 2006, the city of San Diego began allowing political campaigns to electronically file their financial reports, giving the public easy access to information on money in city politics. The county of San Diego wasn’t as quick to make the same kind of information available and continues to lag behind the city’s efforts.
