"One Paseo" opponents launch referendum campaign

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Opponents of the controversial "One Paseo" development in Carmel Valley are launching a referendum campaign to overturn the city council's approval.

Last Monday, the council voted 7-2 in favor of the 1 million plus square foot mixed use complex of housing, retail, and office space.

Opponents say it's too big for the area and will cause traffic problems.

Supporters call One Paseo an example of "smart urban growth".

Referendum organizers have until March 25th to gather roughly 24,000 signatures. Should they get them, the council would have to either repeal its approval or put the matter to a public vote.
