Robber targets National City bank

NATIONAL CITY (CNS) - A 25-year-old parolee attempted to rob a bank in National City on Saturday, but was arrested as he walked away empty-handed.

Jorge Luis Vidrio allegedly passed a demand note stating he was armed to a teller at the Bank of America at 235 E. Eighth Ave. shortly after 10 a.m., FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth said.

However, the teller was behind a protective window and tipped off other employees, who activated the bank's security alarm.

Vidrio walked out of the bank empty-handed, and was followed by at least one witness, according to Foxworth.

National City police were alerted to the suspect's location and he was arrested without incident around 10:30 a.m., Foxworth said. He was booked into jail on suspicion of robbery and violating the terms of his parole.

The conviction that led to Vidrio's parole was not immediately disclosed.
