14-year-old under investigation for threat against San Marcos school

Posted: Updated:

SAN MARCOS (CNS) - Investigators say they believe a 14-year-old student at Mission Hills High School in San Marcos is behind an online threat that prompted school officials to beef up security on campus Wednesday.

A student found the posting on Burnbook.com around 10 p.m. Tuesday and alerted a parent who notified the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, sheriff's Lt. Jerry Hartman said in a statement.

"The posting made several unspecific threats toward the school and indicated the person posting was building a firearm," he said, adding an investigation to identify the poster was ongoing.

Early Wednesday evening, sheriff's department officials said they had identified the suspect, who was not being publicly identified due to age. It was also determined that the student had no access to firearms, and there was no threat to the school.

It was not clear if the student would face criminal charges.
