Woman pleads guilty to stealing packages from East County homes

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 37-year-old parolee who stole mailed packages from the front yards of East County homes pleaded guilty Wednesday to burglary and attempted burglary.

Martha A. Lampley, who already had a burglary "strike" conviction, is expected to be sentenced to 23 years and 8 months in prison on April 8. She pleaded guilty to two counts of residential burglary, and one count each of second-degree burglary and attempted burglary.

Lampley was arrested on Nov. 29 in connection with the package thefts, which occurred over a roughly weeklong period in late November in Lemon Grove, Spring Valley and unincorporated areas near El Cajon, sheriff's officials said. Total losses were estimated at about $1,000.

Home surveillance video provided by one of the victims led to Lampley's arrest, according to investigators, who tracked down some of the stolen mail in a rented storage unit.

Lampley posted bail on Dec. 4, but about two days later was named a suspect in a residential burglary in which an iPad was taken, according to the sheriff's department. On Dec. 18, members of the San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested her at an address on Crane Street in Spring Valley on several felony warrants.
