SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — A man charged with killing a San Diego County family whose bodies were found buried in the desert is asking the prosecution to turn over more evidence.

Charles "Chase" Merritt is representing himself in court.

U-T San Diego reports ( ) Merritt told a judge Monday that he has seen about a third of the evidence that could be used against him.

Prosecutors said Merritt should have all of the evidence — some 9,000 pages worth — by the end of the week.

The 57-year-old Merritt has pleaded not guilty to murder.

Forty-year-old Joseph McStay, his 43-year-old wife Summer and their sons, 4-year-old Gianni and 3-year-old Joseph Jr., disappeared from their Fallbrook home in 2010.

Merritt was a business associate of Joseph McStay.
