Chase through San Diego reaches speeds of 100 mph

The driver of a truck led police on a chase through the county Wednesday, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A probationer who allegedly refused to yield for a traffic stop in the South Bay Wednesday led police on a road chase to the East County, where he was arrested along with his passenger after pulling over and fleeing on foot with her, authorities reported.

The pursuit began shortly after 9 a.m., when an officer tried to pull over the driver of a black 2006 Ford F150 for a minor traffic violation in the 500 block of E Street in Chula Vista, CVPD Capt. Lon Turner said.

The motorist fled to the north on Interstate 15 and east on State Route 54, at times reached speeds as high as 100 mph and at one point throwing something out of the pickup, Turner said.

Reaching Jamacha Boulevard in Spring Valley, the driver exited the freeway and managed to lose his pursuers. A witness, however, directed officers to the 9100 block of Harness Street, where they spotted and detained two pedestrians matching the description of the fugitive driver and his companion.

Arrested were Lakeside residents Lawrence Johnson and Kiya Neff, both 27. Johnson was booked on suspicion of felony evasion of police and violation of probation, while Neff was expected to face a charge of being under the influence of narcotics.

Officers were not immediately able to find the unidentified object that Johnson tossed out of his vehicle during the chase, Turner said.
