Crews make quick work of brush fire in Point Loma

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – Fire crews made quick work of a brush fire that broke out in Point Loma Thursday evening.

It happened around 5 p.m. off west Point Loma Boulevard near Rialto Street. Billowing smoke could be seen from Interstate 8.

Firefighters arrived to find several trees on fire behind an apartment complex.

"You could see the trees up here they're dropping embers and so we want to make sure and overhaul that real well so we don't come back again tonight to another fire," San Diego Fire-Rescue Capt. Mike Nizic said.

It took about 10 minutes to douse the flames. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials say there were reports of some kids playing in the area just before it broke out.
