SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Authorities have released a composite sketch of a man who allegedly tried to lure a seven-year-old girl into his SUV Monday afternoon in front of her elementary school campus in Solana Beach.

Deputies reported that it happened when school was out and kids were being picked up around 3:30 p.m. at Skyline Elementary on Loma Santa Fe Drive. Authorities said a man came onto campus, grabbed the seven-year-old girl, put his hand over her mouth, and tried to wrap her head in packing tape.

"The female screamed and at that point teachers heard, came out and the man fled on foot,” explained Captain Theresa Adams-Hydar with the San Diego Sheriff's Department.

The girl got away and the suspect fled and now an investigation is underway with multiple agencies involved.

"My detectives from Encinitas and Solana Beach are on this, juvenile detectives are on this looking at all possible leads anything and everything we can to identify the individual,” continued Captain Adams-Hydar.

That suspect is described as a white male in his 40's, around 6 feet tall, weighing 200 pounds. He was wearing a green baseball hat, a baseball jersey, baseball pants, and shoes. He was driving a boxy silver and black Ford SUV - possibly a Ford Flex.

The Solana Beach School District is asking parents to help be their eyes and ears saying in a released statement:

"It is important that parents in coordination with staff report any suspicious behaviors they witness on and around campuses. We are thankful for the immediate action of the student and the adults in the vicinity."

District leaders are also asking parents to remind their children about Stranger Danger.

The seven-year-old girl was not injured in the incident.

Classes at Skyline Elementary are running as scheduled Tuesday.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the San Diego County Crime Stoppers.

The seven-year-old girl's father released a letter to the school's community warning other parents to be mindful of attempted kidnapping attempts. Read the letter here >>
