SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – New protocols are in place at Skyline Elementary School in Solana Beach, after an attempted kidnapping of a seven-year-old girl Monday, March 23. The superintendent, Dr. Nancy Lynch, spoke with parents Thursday and outlined changes that will take place at the school to help ease concerns.

Lynch said the school has added and will be adding more security guards, a buzzard gate at the entrance of the school, a project which was already in progress, security cameras, safety programs and discussions with the students so they know what to do in the case of an attempted abduction.

Sheriff's deputies reported that the incident happened when school was out and kids were being picked up around 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 23 at  the elementary school on Loma Santa Fe Drive. Authorities said the suspect came onto campus, grabbed the seven-year-old girl, put his hand over her mouth, and tried to wrap her head in packing tape.

"The female screamed and at that point teachers heard, came out and the man fled on foot,” explained Captain Theresa Adams-Hydar with the San Diego Sheriff's Department.

The girl got away and is reportedly doing well.

That suspect is described as a white male in his 40's, around 6 feet tall, weighing 200 pounds. He was wearing a green baseball hat, a baseball jersey, baseball pants, and shoes. He was driving a boxy black and silver Ford SUV - possibly a Ford Flex.

If you have any information, you're asked to call San Diego Sheriff's Department.
