Border Patrol video shows fatal taser explosion

Posted: Updated:
(CBS 8) - Newly released dashcam video from a Border Patrol vehicle shows a deadly explosion sparked by an agent's taser gun.

The video, recorded in 2012, shows a driver, who was being chased by Border Patrol agents, pulling over on Sunrise Highway.

One agent then breaks out the passenger window and fires his taser. That's when the vehicle explodes in flames, killing 25-year-old Alex Martin.

His family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit, claiming Martin might not have even known he was being chased by agents.

“None of them identified themselves as Border Patrol agents, two, none of them were in uniform, and three, non of them displayed a badge,” said Attorney Gene Iredale.

The explosion could have been caused by spilled gasoline inside the vehicle.

The government wants the lawsuit thrown out, claiming the agents were trying to protect themselves from a reckless driver.
