Chase ends in El Cajon with collision and arrest

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A motorcyclist who refused to yield for a traffic stop near Lakeside Thursday led deputies on a brief road chase into El Cajon, where he was injured in a collision and arrested, authorities reported.

The man sped off about 3:35 p.m. when a deputy tried to pull him in the area of Los Coches Road and Interstate 8 for failing to have a license plate on his enduro-style Honda two-wheeler, according to sheriff's officials.

The motorcyclist fled on I-8 for several miles before exiting onto Greenfield Drive, Lt. Jim Bolwerk said. He then continued to the west on Main Street until he lost control near Broadway while trying to pass a car on the right-hand side just as the driver was pulling over due to the deputies' sirens.

The motorcyclist, whose name was not immediately available, tumbled onto the roadside and was arrested without further incident. He was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where he was expected to be treated for a lower-leg injury prior to being booked into county jail on suspicion of evading arrest.
