Southern California desert wildfire prompts evacuations

Posted: Updated:

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (AP) - A Southern California desert wildfire pushed by gusty winds has burned two outbuildings and prompted evacuation of homes east of Los Angeles.

The San Bernardino County Fire Department says the fire began around noon Tuesday in a riverbed in Mojave Narrows Regional Park near Victorville. It's quickly grown to 70 acres and is heading east through brush and trees.

Evacuations have been ordered for ranches and large homes in the area. Fire engines are protecting some.

Some horses and other animals also have been evacuated.

About 200 firefighters are battling flames with the help of water-dropping helicopters.

There's no word on what caused the fire.
