Suspected City Heights arsonist arrested

A suspect in a string of arson fires set in City Heights in recent weeks was arrested Saturday.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A man is behind bars Saturday accused of setting a string of fires in City Heights.

San Diego detectives from the Metro Arson Strike Team (MAST) announced that they had arrested a suspect following a fire that was deliberately set on the porch of a home in the 5200 block of Odgen Street. Officers responding to the fire stopped 24-year-old Rolando Resendiz who was found walking away from the scene.

Following questioning by detectives, Resendiz was booked into county jail for two counts of arson to an occupied structure and one count of arson to property.

San Diego Fire-Rescue crews quickly knocked down the fire and no injuries were reported.

Damage to the home was estimated at $400.00.

Evidence located by detectives also linked Resendiz to two fires set on March 31, 2015. He is also a suspect in those fires.

The investigation is ongoing.
