Accused City Heights arsonist enters not guilty plea

A man accused of setting three fires among a string of more than a dozen blazes set in City Heights in recent weeks pleaded not guilty Wednesday to multiple arson charges.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man accused of setting three fires among a string of more than a dozen blazes set in City Heights in recent weeks pleaded not guilty Wednesday to multiple arson charges.

Rolando Resendiz, 24, was ordered held on $750,000 bail.

The defendant was arrested early Saturday when he was found walking from an area on Ogden Street where a bag of clothes was set on fire on someone's porch, authorities said. Damage was estimated at $400.

Arson investigators also linked Resendiz to a pair of other fires set on March 31, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman Lee Swanson.

An investigation is ongoing into a number of other fires set in City Heights last month, said Deputy District Attorney Ted Fiorito.

Resendiz faces a maximum of 11 years and eight months in prison if convicted as charged, according to the prosecutor.

Judge Jay Bloom set a readiness conference for April 17 and a preliminary hearing for April 21.
