PETA offers $5,000 reward in sea lion pup abduction

Posted: Updated:
LOS ANGELES (AP) - A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered to help find a sea lion pup that was snatched off a Southern California beach over the weekend.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals announced the reward Wednesday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the pup-nappers.

Authorities say two men and two women harassed two pups and then were seen putting one in a blanket and taking it away from Dockweiler State Beach in Los Angeles at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Sea lions are federally protected and the theft is under investigation.

No arrests have been made.

Experts say the 25-pound pup needs special food and treatment and also might be dangerous since it's capable of giving a serious bite.
