New security measures frustrating Padres fans

Posted: Updated:
SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Major League Baseball made changes this season which required ball parks around the country to install walk-through metal detectors, and baseball fans are not happy with the backup they have created.

Padres fans have become frustrated with long lines to get into Petco Park. In some instances, fans have had to wait over 20 minutes to get through security.

Fans believe the big hold up is the metal detectors they have to walk though at all gates, and bags still having to be checked.

"They are not running it right," said one fan.

After the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing, the MLB required all teams to implement security screenings at gates.

"It's part of the process, so I would rather be safe," said Christen.

Ishmael Guerrero said, "It takes a while, but as long as they go pretty quick, and they are on it, I'm good with it."

A Padres spokesperson said they warned fans early in the year about new security measures, and continue to encourage fans to come early.

On Friday, some fans arrived two hours early.

Also, because of the big crowds expected over the weekend for the Padres, Dodgers series, the Padres have encouraged fans to get to Petco early.
