SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An observance of the 40th anniversary of the fall of Saigon, which ended the Vietnam War, is scheduled Sunday aboard the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum.

The ceremonies are in conjunction with a traveling exhibition of The Wall That Heals, a half-size replica of the Vietnam War Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. The replica is available for viewing for free on the museum's flight deck, 24 hours a day until Thursday at 5 p.m.

Around 3,000 Vietnamese fleeing their country in the final days of the war found refuge aboard the Midway. The ship's captain at the time, Larry Chambers, and air boss, Vern Jumper, are scheduled to make remarks at Sunday's event.

Up to 5,000 people are expected to attend beginning at 10 a.m., including former crew members and refugees. A wreath-laying ceremony is scheduled at noon.

Volunteers have tied close to 58,300 yellow ribbons on a fence surrounding the Midway's flight deck to signify U.S. deaths in the conflict.
