Dinner with Friends at the Ronald McDonald House

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Surviving cancer has a way of giving one a new perspective on life, and for a San Diego man, that battle shifted his focus to finding a way to help others.

After surviving testicular cancer six years ago, Carlos Sanguinetti was inspired to help others. Along with his good friend Matt Teeter, the two friends looked into the Ronald McDonald House and found a way to make a difference.

"We got a few friends together and we came to the house and served a meal and met with families that stayed in the house. We heard heard their stories, and in all honesty, it just touched us," said Sanguinetti.

With enough motivation and support, they have grown their "Dinner with Friends," to an event serving more than 200 people, and raising almost $50,000 last year.

Sanguinetti said it was empowering and motivating to see the families, what they were going through, and what the Ronald McDonald House does for them.

The dinner is held at the Ronald McDonald House so attendees can get an up close understanding of it's healing power.

The house provides private rooms, laundry facilities, showers and nap rooms for families that do not stay in the house. The house also has a chapel for spiritual solace.

"It may be corny, Dinner with Friends, but we really feel that is what it is. Friends coming together and helping out for a good cause. It's everybody pulling together and making things happen," said Teeter.

Dinner with Friends will take place Saturday, May 2, 2015, from 5 p.m., to 9 p.m.
