Two San Diego rescued labs sent to Canada to protect the environment

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The San Diego based group Labrador Rescuers found a home for two rescued dogs in Canada where they will help protect the environment.

The two dogs, Dallas and Diesel, took a private plane to Canada to work for the Fish and Game Company. They will search out invasive species.

Dallas is blind, but that has not stopped him. Lori Ring taught Dallas to navigate her home.

"This is such a good move for him, he will have such a great adventure," she said.

Lori said it's Dallas' can do attitude that has and will help him get around.

What Dallas lacks in sight, he makes up with his nose.

"He will sniff the boats as they come in to see if there's any muscles on them. It's such an amazing gift for him to use his skills," said Ring.

Diesel on the other hand, will work protecting wildlife. Specifically, elephants who are poached for their ivory.

The dogs gained the skills thanks to Maria Goldman and the rest of her lab rescue team.

"We re-home labs that come from the shelter, abandoned, found on the streets as strays or families who can no longer take them. So they come to us," she said.

Ten volunteers accompanied Dallas and Diesel on the private plane to Canada.

Diesel and Dallas arrived safely in Canada and began their training on Thursday.
