San Diego gas prices on the rise

Posted: Updated:
SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - In just one week, gas prices in San Diego jumped 40 cents. The recent surge in gas prices has been unusual because just last week the average price for a gallon of gasoline in San Diego was $3.28.

Nationwide, California remains the most expensive state for gasoline, but now, it costs more than 50 cents per gallon in San Diego than the second most expensive state.

In fact, with the 40 cent price jump, gasoline prices in San Diego are now more expensive than it has been all year.

The average gasoline price is now $3.67 per gallon.

Even Chargers offensive lineman DJ Fluker thinks gas prices are out of hand.

"It definitely is. I don't care how rich you are, or how much money you have," he said.

The cause of higher prices in the area can be traced back to an incident that happened last month at a Chevron refinery in Northern California.

Also, in February an explosion at an Exxon-Mobile refinery in Torrance also led to lower fuel supplies.

AAA expects to see higher gasoline prices in California through at least July, but it does not expect to see gas prices to go over three dollars nationwide.

Some of the footage in this video story was shot using a GoPro camera.
