Two people killed, wrong-way driver arrested for DUI

Posted: Updated:
SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two people were killed and four were sent to the hospital in an overnight wreck on Interstate 15.

Just after 3 a.m. Saturday, an elderly man and woman were killed and four others were sent to the hospital in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 15.

A 2004 Audi A4 traveling northbound on the southbound side of Interstate 15 collided with a 2004 Honda Civic, just after the Scripps Poway Parkway exit, the CHP said.

The driver of the Honda, 55-year-old Rudolfo De la Torres and his passenger, 84-year-old Teresa Esparza Hernandez, were killed, the CHP said. Three other passengers and the driver of the Audi were taken to nearby hospitals with major injuries.

The 21-year-old driver of the Audi was later arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence, the CHP said. The crash is also under investigation.

Names of those involved in the crash will not be released until next of kin are notified, SDF-R said.
